ASSISTANT OR ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN RESIDENCE-MATERNAL CHILD AND ADOLESCENT HEALTH
The Maternal Child and Adolescent Health (MCAH) Program in the Division of Community Health Sciences at the University of California, Berkeley School of Public Health invites applications for a non-tenure-track senate faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in Residence. Anticipated start date of this position is July 1, 2018.

The mission of the MCAH Program is to develop the next generation of leaders equipped to solve the health challenges facing women, children, adolescents and families of the 21st century. MCAH teaching and research at the UC Berkeley School of Public Health includes graduate level education and postdoctoral training through the Center of Excellence in MCAH; the Bixby Center for Population Health and Sustainability; the Wallace Center for Maternal and Child Health; Innovations for Youth; MCH training in Public Health Nutrition; and the Center for Environmental Research and Children's Health (CERCH). Faculty and students are responsive to newly emerging issues in MCAH and to the unique needs of the diverse communities and cultures of the San Francisco Bay area, State of California, and the world. Students are inspired to use their skills and expertise to achieve health equity for all.
Research/Practice: We seek applicants with demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following fields: social determinants of health, policy, MCAH practice, migration, health technology, children & youth with special health care needs, and consumer/family engagement. Preference will be given to candidates whose research focuses on MCAH issues and populations in the domestic US. Particular consideration will be given to candidates doing cutting edge work in the design, implementation, evaluation and practice of public health interventions. The ideal candidate will be able to teach graduate courses related to program planning, life course theory, and the fundamentals of MCAH practice and policy.
Additionally, the faculty member will be expected to establish a portfolio of research supported by extramural funding; teach graduate courses in the Program and Division; advise Maternal Child and Adolescent Health MPH students on capstone projects; serve on the MCAH admissions committee; and provide service to the department, school, university and the profession. In the first three years of appointment, 100% of academic year funding will be provided by the Wallace Center for Maternal and Child Health in the School. In the fourth year, this academic year funding will be reduced to 75% support and in future years, 50% of academic year funding of this position will be provided by the endowment. The remainder of funding will need to be covered by extramural funding obtained by the candidate. This is a 9 month position, with academic salary and the associated benefits paid over 12 months, and opportunities for additional teaching or research during the summer to complete up to full year of effort.
Minimum basic qualifications:
Candidates for Assistant Professor in Residence must have completed all Ph.D. or equivalent degree requirements except the dissertation in the field of public health, medicine, nursing, the social/behavioral sciences (e.g., psychology, social welfare) or a field with direct application to public health (e.g., health informatics) at the time of application, and a Ph.D or equivalent degree is required within one year of hire date. Candidates for the position
should clearly demonstrate the potential for excellence in research and teaching and have a clear potential for distinguished scholarship, grant-funded research.
Candidates for Associate Professor in Residence must have a doctoral degree or equivalent degree in the field of public health, medicine, nursing, the social/behavioral sciences (e.g., psychology, social welfare) or a field with direct application to public health (e.g., health informatics) at the time of application, and should have a strong record of research and teaching, including an exceptional research program with demonstrated success in securing and sustaining external funding.
